Membership Has Its Privileges

Become A Member Today!

Membership always has its privileges, and the same holds true with the Awake In Philly Community Education Group.

After operating for three years without outside funding, Awake In Philly needed to generate income to support its mission, including printing, postage, and other outreach programs in which the group is involved.

Awake In Philly members will receive several “members only” benefits, including one CD each year with customized versions of Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. The customized versions were created by Awake In Philly are the latest versions of the respective browsers at the time the CDs are created, and include a collection of links related to sleep disorders.

In addition to the customized browsers, there are other goodies on the CDs, including distributable copies of Adobe Acrobat Reader, the Eudora email client, and other software. Some of the software available on the CD is freeware, while some is shareware, but all software programs were included for its usefulness or utility to help collect, retrieve, or store information about sleep disorders, or anything else you choose.

In addition to the software, members will also receive a copy of the official minutes of the Awake In Philly meetings in PDF format. Saving the files in PDF format allows the group to use its logo, fonts, and specific software applications that everyone may not have installed on their personal computers. By saving the file to PDF format, anyone with Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on their computer, whether it is a Macintosh, a PC, or a Unix-based system, will be able to open and read the files -- in the format it was created.

Members will also receive each edition of The Sleep-e Times newsletter. While new, it has been in the planning stages for well over one year by the group's coordinator, Dave Jackson. Prior to being diagnosed with apnea, Jackson worked for more than 20 years as a reporter and editor for various publications on the East Coast and in the Midwest. The Sleep-e Times will begin publishing quarterly with the Spring 2003 edition. It will be available in your choice of digital or paper format.

While members will receive The Sleep-e Times newsletter as part of the membership benefits, the newsletter will also be available as a subscription-based item, as well, lending itself to a great gift idea.
